The Jan. 8 Carlisle Sentinel profiled the key figures in a new film, “Downward.” Rolando Vega ’13, Michael Ortiz ’09, and Mitch McClure ’14 are filming in the Mechanicsburg area after accomplishing their Kickstarter campaign goal.

Amish expert provides context to current televisions depictions of Amish

Dining services participates in food bank fundraiser

November 2nd, 2011

Messiah College Executive Chef Percell Green made a baby blue salad parfait and white chocolate bread pudding for the 24th annual Taste of Central Pennsylvania fundraiser for the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. The dishes were crowd favorites, and Messiah won the People’s Choice Award and Best in Food award.

Harrisburg has troubles, resilience

In the past year, much has been written and said about the debt situation facing the City of Harrisburg. The city’s future is unsure, but Messiah College trustee and Harrisburg businessman Richard E. Jordan III, maintains that Harrisburg is also known for its resilience. In his November 14 opinion piece for the Harrisburg Patriot-News, Jordan writes, “The DNA of the midstate enterprise is creative and resilient: economically, intellectually, and historically.”

Mendelssohn Piano Trio performs on WITF’s The Creative Zone

On April 15, Messiah’s Ensemble-in-Residence Mendelssohn Piano Trio interviewed and performed with Cary Burkett on The Creative Zone, a program showcasing local artists and authors. The trio is comprised of Peter Sirotin, Ya-Ting Chang, and Fiona Thompson.

Major league prospect overcame hardships

Alum Chris Heisey caught the attention of the Cincinnati Reds after an outstanding seasoon on their farm team. A recent Reds interview with Heisey delved a bit more into the player’s personal life, including the hardship of losing his father just a few years ago.

Track star wins two national titles

March 24th, 2010

Kristen Bates earned a place among Messiah’s best athletes when she won two national titles at the NCAA Division III National Indoor Track and Field competition at DePauw University. Bates won the 55-meter hurdles and the pentathlon. The Patriot-News featured Bates in a March 18 article.

Messiah softball captures national title

May 19th, 2009

The Falcons beat Coe College 2-0 on May 18 to win their first NCAA Division 3 national championship in softball! Local media have covered the team’s journey to the championship, paying special attention to Pitcher Jessica Rhoads, a graduate of nearby Northern High School, who has had a “phenomenal” season, according to the Harrisburg Patriot-News.

Guitarist to perform on local public radio

April 9th, 2009

Randall Zwally, Messiah’s director of guitar studies, will be interviewed and perform works for the classical guitar during a segment of “Classical Air” on WITF Public Radio 89.5 FM on April 10 at approximately 10:35 a.m. In the approximately 20-minute segment, Zwally will present a brief history of the classical guitar and perform works that illustrate that history. He will also discuss, with the show’s host Cary Burkett, what will be offered at the Workshop for the Christian Guitarist being held at Messiah on April 18.
