Statue represents important local, world history

August 10th, 2010

Sean Sims, a 2008 graduate of Messiah, recently wrote a piece for the August 6 Harrisburg Patriot-News about the bronze statue located on base at the Army War College in nearby Carlisle. The statue of Frederick the Great of Prussia was a gift from a prince who had traveled to America in the early 1900s. Through the years, including times of war with Germany, the statue, affectionally coined “Freddy,” was occasionally under attack or removed from public and placed in hiding.
