Extended Time in Canvas Quizzes/Exams
It’s midterm season! If you have a student with an accommodation for extended time on exams, you’ll need to set that up in Canvas BEFORE the exam begins. This will likely be a two-step process depending on your exam setting. Check out this tutorial for details.
Respondus Lockdown Browser Reminder
If you require your students to use Respondus Lockdown Browser for your exam, please remember that after copying a course from a previous semester, you must open the “Lockdown Browser” link in your course’s left-hand navigation at least once to activate all settings for this new section.
We also recommend that you remind students to check that their Lockdown Browser is up to date. (how to check for and install updates).

Update for Canvas ePortfolio Users:
Transition to “Portfolio”
What: Canvas is transitioning from their ePortfolio feature to a new feature simply called Portfolio.
When: ePortfolio will no longer be available after June 30, 2026. Portfolio is available now.
What do I need to do:
- Direct your students to manually transfer their content into the new Portfolio feature (Canvas tutorial) before June 30, 2026.
- Moving forward, use the new Portfolio feature with students.
How do I get help: Instructional designers in the Office of Faculty Development are available to assist you. Please contact techsupport@messiah.edu.
New Quizzes Workshops
As a reminder, Canvas is preparing to fully transition to New Quizzes and to end Classic Quizzes, so the time is coming to switch (if you haven’t already done so). Both quiz engines will continue to be available throughout the spring 2026 semester, though you are welcome to learn more about New Quizzes and/or opt in early.
