Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds to perform April 23

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (February 26, 2016) — On April 23, Messiah College Department of Music showcases its Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds at 8 p.m. in Parmer Hall, located in the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts. This concert features Messiah College’s Wind Ensemble, conducted by Bradley Genevro, Symphonic Winds conducted by William Stowman, and guest soloist Barry Green. The general public is welcome to attend this free performance; no ticket is required. Messiah College Concert Choir and Chamber Singers to present concert on April 3

cocnertchoir_editMECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Feb. 23, 2016) — The Messiah College Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, (Linda L. Tedford, conductor) will present a concert at Messiah College’s Parmer Hall in the High Center for Worship and Performing Arts on April 3, 2016 at 3 p.m. The choir’s 2016 tour, March 9-13, will take the 45-member group to churches and schools in central and eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. CDs will be available for purchase, including the ensemble’s newest release, “Music Down in My Soul.” The tour will officially conclude on April 3, when the choir presents its home campus concert in Parmer Hall. First place Opera Workshop performs “The Tender Land” April 7-9

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Feb. 15, 2016) — Messiah’s Opera Workshop, winner of the 2014 National Opera Association opera production competition, joins the Department of Theatre and Dance and the Messiah College Symphony Orchestra for a fully-mounted production of “The Tender Land.” Performances are in Miller Theatre, located in the Climenhaga Building, at 8 p.m. on April 7-9, and 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 10. International touring group “Azaguno” to perform at Messiah College on March 18

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Feb. 10, 2016) — Messiah College School of the Arts will host Azaguno: African Drum and Dance Ensemble on March 18. The performance will begin at 8 p.m. in Messiah College’s Parmer Hall, located in the High Center for Worship and Performing Arts. This multi-ethnic show will feature traditional African, African-American, Carribean and Latin American music and dance. It is open to the public, and tickets can be purchased via the ticket office at 717-691-6036 or messiah.edu/tickets. Cost is $20 for adults and $10 for students (with ID). Mark Samels, executive producer of PBS’s American Experience, to deliver keynote at Messiah College’s Spring Humanities Symposium

(Feb. 3, 2016) — Mark Samels, executive producer of PBS’s American Experience, will deliver the keynote address “To Tell a True Story” Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. in Parmer Hall in the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts. The lecture is sponsored by the Messiah College Center for Public Humanities and is part of the College’s annual Humanities Symposium. Admission is free, but a ticket is required. The Sider Institute to Host Annual Schrag Lecture March 17

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Jan. 29, 2016) — The Sider Institute for Anabaptist, Pietist and Wesleyan Studies will hold its annual Schrag Lectures on March 17 at Messiah College. This year’s lecturer is Dr. Molly Worthen. She will deliver a lecture “The Curious History of the Christian Worldview: Theological Origins of the Culture Wars,” which will draw from her recent book, “Apostles of Reason: The Crisis of Authority in American Evangelicalism.” It will consider the role of Anabaptists and Wesleyans in the evangelical movement in the years after World War II. The lecture will be held at 7 p.m. in Parmer Hall in the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts. Admission is free; no ticket is required. The Stabler Foundation Grants Over Half a Million Dollars to Messiah College

Messiah College Choral Arts Society holds auditions for spring concerts

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Nov. 12, 2015) — The Messiah College Choral Arts Society will hold auditions for its spring concerts series on Dec. 8, 11 and Jan. 5 in the High Center at Messiah College. The ensemble consists of community members as well as Messiah College faculty, staff and students. The Choral Arts Society maintains a membership of 70 singers, and has performed with the Harrisburg Symphony orchestra and the Susquehanna Chorale. The group is conducted by Linda L.
