Messiah College Media Mentions

A variety of Messiah College administrators contributed to a package of stories in the Harrisburg Patriot-News for high school seniors and first-year college students. The stories, about everything from working while a freshman, writing a great college essay, and making the most of parental visits, ran on Aug. 8.

Heading off to college is a big deal — for students and their parents. On June 8, the Harrisburg Patriot-News ran a story that included interviews with local admissions professionals, including Messiah’s own Dana Britton, to find out what every parent (and their student) should know about that first year away from home.

According to a June 2 article in “University Business,” colleges and universities are using social media as a means of connecting with prospective and accepted students and their families. Messiah is cited for its Facebook efforts.

John Chopka, vice president of enrollment management, talked with the Carlisle Sentinel about the challenges of recruiting students. The article, which examines recent trends at Dickinson, Messiah, and Shippensburg, appeared in the March 29 issue.

All three of Rohan and Joy Hepkins’ daughters have found a home at Messiah College. Between their support of Christian higher education and Messiah’s reputation in each of the daughter’s chosen fields of study, Messiah has been the perfect choice for their family, comments Mr. Hepkins in the August article, “We Believe in Christian College,” in Campus Life’s Christian College Guide.

A July 5 story in the Carlisle Sentinel surveyed local colleges and universities to gauge the impact of the economy on enrollment. John Chopka, vice president for enrollment, noted that Messiah, like all other colleges and universities in the eastern United States, is expecting a decline in applicants as a nationwide population shift decreases the prospective applicant pool. The College is responding by strategically targeting recruitment efforts in areas of the country where applicants are plentiful.
