Student Matthew Elton demonstrates mastery of Chinese language at national competition and wins scholarship to Chinese university

May 3rd, 2011

Matthew Elton, a junior communications major, is mastering more than just the English language. Elton recently competed in and won third place in a Chinese language competition in New York City called Chinese Bridge Competition. The competition is sponsored by the Chinese Language Council International and organized by the New York Service Center for Chinese Study Fellows.

Elton won a scholarship for a year study at any Chinese university in 2012-2013.

Elton was one of 27 contestants selected from 100 candidates representing 39 colleges and universities to participate in the final competition.

According to representatives of the Chinese Bridge Competition, Elton “gave a wonderful speech in Chinese…performed writing Chinese traditional calligraphy in cursive style in Chinese…and did a great self-introduction that was recorded and shown in the interval time during the competition.”
