Sustain-a-Spotlight

Hello everyone!

My name is Kate and I am the author of this blog! I am the intern for the Director of the Office of Sustainability. I am also a first year student and I am a double major in Environmental Science and Sustainability Studies with a concentration in Public Policy.

A fun fact about me is that I LOVE swimming and my favorite food is pizza, but only NY pizza.

Like I mentioned in one of my previous posts, I worked on an organic farm the spring of my senior year in high school and that helped me decide that I wanted to study sustainability. My mom is a horticulturist and my dad is a landscaper so I grew up around plant science and working with the environment and I think that’s where my love for environmental science comes from, countless hours in nature camps over the summers also helped. I am really excited to be studying at Messiah and working as the intern for this wonderful office. My goal for this semester is to increase awareness of everything the Office of Sustainability is doing around campus!

Stay tuned for more Sustain-a-Spotlights from the other members of the office team!

Here I am on a beach in Cape Cod, showing my cousin the underbelly of a crab.
