Messiah College presents annual workshop for Christian guitarists April 18

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (April 1, 2015) — Messiah College will host its annual Workshop for Christian Guitarists led by senior lecturer Randall Zwally, electric guitarist Jay Umble and guitar repair specialist Rob Zwally April 18 at 3 p.m. in the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts. Messiah alum Erik Scholosser (who is the general music teacher at Manheim Township High School) will also assist. General admission tickets are $50 and student tickets are $35. Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra to perform Brahms’ “Requiem” with Messiah College ensembles

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (March 31, 2015) — The Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Stuart Malina will be joined by the Messiah College Concert Choir, the Messiah College Choral Arts Society and the Susquehanna Chorale, Ensemble in Residence at Messiah College, to perform Brahms’ “Requiem.” The three choirs are conducted by Linda Tedford, director of choral activities. The performance will be held on April 17 at 8 p.m. in Parmer Hall, located in the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts. Admission is $35. The Sider Institute to Host Annual Schrag Lecture March 26

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (March 11, 2015) — The Sider Institute for Anabaptist, Pietist and Wesleyan Studies is holding its annual Schrag Lectures on March 26 at Messiah College. This year’s lecturer is Dr. J. Nelson Kraybill. He will deliver two lectures. The first, “AC/DC: Changing Currents in the Global Church,” will be held at 9:45 a.m. in Hostetter Chapel. The second, “Alternating Currents and Multi-Directional Minstry: Global Anabaptism and Its Challenges to the North American Church,” will be held at 7 p.m. in Parmer Cinema in Boyer Hall. Messiah College to convert its Mechanicsburg campus to natural gas

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (March 10, 2015)—For two years, Messiah College has been partnering with UGI to explore ways to save energy costs, reduce its carbon footprint and make its campus more energy efficient. As a result of this planning, the College will begin installation of a natural gas infrastructure to its Mechanicsburg, Pa. campus this summer, with a planned completion date of spring 2016. (Feb. 11, 2015) — Michele Norris, host and special correspondent for NPR, will deliver the keynote address “Eavesdropping on America’s Conversation on Race” Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. in Parmer Hall in the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts. The lecture is sponsored by the Messiah College Center for Public Humanities and is part of the College’s annual Humanities Symposium. Admission is free, but a ticket is required. Messiah College welcomes Peter Greer, CEO of HOPE International, as entrepreneur-in-residence

Peter GreerMECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Feb. 2, 2015) — Messiah College is pleased to welcome Peter Greer, president and CEO of HOPE International, as entrepreneur-in-residence. In this new role, Greer will teach a course on social entrepreneurship, and personally mentor upper-class students who have an interest in that area. Greer hopes to bring a higher level of visibility of entrepreneurship and its benefits to the Messiah College community and beyond. “This generation is thinking differently about entrepreneurship and its ability to solve some of the world’s biggest problems,” Greer said. Messiah College receives The Carnegie Foundation 2015 Community Engagement Classification

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Jan. 7, 2015) — The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has selected Messiah College to receive the Community Engagement Classification—one of 240 U.S. colleges and universities to receive the designation in 2015. Colleges and universities with an institutional focus on community engagement were invited to apply for the classification, first offered in 2006. In order to be selected, institutions had to provide detailed descriptions and examples of institutionalized practices of community engagement that showed alignment among mission, culture, leadership, resources and practices.
