GRANTHAM, Pa. (March 22, 2013) — Guitarists of any level can learn to develop their skills for Christian worship at the Workshop for the Christian Guitarist at Messiah College. The all-day event will be held on April 13 in the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is $25 for students and $40 for the general public. Attendees may register by visiting messiah.edu/guitar or by calling the music department office at 717-766-2511, ext. 3310.

About the workshop sessions and clinicians
Workshop sessions will be led by clinicians Randall Zwally, Jay Umble, Rob Zwally and Erik Schlosser. Randall Zwally, director of guitar studies at Messiah, holds master’s degrees in guitar performance and library science and has completed post-graduate music studies at Texas Christian University, Johns Hopkins University and Manhattan School of Music. Zwally will teach advanced sessions for the acoustic guitarist.

Jay Umble teaches guitar mechanics, harmony theory and fretboard integration as the instructor of jazz and electric guitar at Messiah. He has released three nationally distributed recordings, as well as authored several nationally acclaimed guitar instruction books. Umble will teach a session for electric guitarists which will cover improvisation, electronic effects and staying focused and confident when playing in public.

Rob Zwally, Randall’s brother, is a stringed instrument repair specialist. His sessions will discuss topics of guitar care and maintenance. Zwally will also be available throughout the day to examine instruments and provide suggestions and estimates on repair and customizing.

Erik Schlosser, a Messiah College graduate with a degree in music education, will teach a new, unique series of sessions for the beginning to intermediate acoustic guitarist. A full-time member of music faculty member at Manheim Township High School, Schlosser directs the school’s guitar studies.
