Messiah College hosts a debate on the morality of capitalism with Jim Wallis and Arthur Brooks

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Oct. 18, 2011) — Jim Wallis, founder and president of Sojourners magazine, and Arthur Brooks, president of the American Enterprise Institute, will come to Messiah College for an educational debate entitled “Is Capitalism Moral?” on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. in Brubaker Auditorium, located in the Eisenhower Campus Center of the college’s Grantham campus. A book signing and dessert reception will follow in Howe Atrium located in Boyer Hall. Admission is free and open to the public, but a ticket is required. The American Enterprise Institute and the Messiah College Honors Program will sponsor the debate, and Peter Greer, president and CEO of HOPE International, will moderate discussion. Greer is a graduate of Messiah College and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Through his work with HOPE International, Greer is widely recognized as an authority on micro-finance development strategies for alleviating physical and spiritual poverty around the world.

Jim Wallis has been a leader of the social justice movement among evangelicals for forty years and is an influential faith-based voice in international discussion on ethics and public life. Wallis is founder and editor-in-chief of Sojourner’s magazine, whose mission is to “articulate the biblical call to social justice, inspiring hope and building a movement to transform individuals, communities, the church and the world.”
