CBS special highlights Messiah softball team

July 2nd, 2009

CBS Sports Presents Championships of the NCAA will air at 2 p.m. on July 4 and include footage from the softball team’s recent national championship. The one-hour special will also include video highlights from baseball, golf, rowing, tennis, and track and field.

Coaching team ranks as the best

Softball coach Amy Weaver and her team of assistants earned the National Fastpitch Coaches Association 2009 Division III Coaching Staff of the Year award after coaching the Falcons to a national championship and 43-4 season record.

Falcons sprint to national ranking

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has ranked the Messiah College women ninth in the nation among DIII schools. The recognition is based on the teams’ finishes in the cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.

Pair of athletes nab silver at NCAA Track and Field Championships

Junior Kristen Bates posted an impressive second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles while teammate Patrick Roach, senior, finished second in the 800-meter run.

Messiah softball wins national title!

Softball team just one game away from national championship

For the first time in the program’s history, the Messiah College softball team (42-4) will play for the NCAA Division III national championship today.

Soccer standout signs with professional team

April 16th, 2009

Kai Kasiguran, an outstanding midfielder who helped lead the Falcons to three national championships between 2004 and 2006, will return to central Pennsylvania to play for the Harrisburg City Islanders professional soccer team.

In 2008, Kasiguran was drafted in the first round of the supplemental draft to play for the Major League soccer team, Chicago Fire.

Messiah announces next men’s soccer head coach

Brad McCarty

Brad McCarty, Messiah’s top assistant for the past eight years, is appointed the new men’s soccer coach, becoming the seventh coach in the program’s 42-year history.

Messiah soccer teams produce two players of the year

January 8th, 2009

Senior J.D. Binger and junior Amanda Naeher are recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America with Division III Player of the Year titles.

Binger, a Belvidere, Ill. native, has been a defensive anchor for the Falcons throughout his career. He started all 26 games this season and converted his penalty kick during the championship game shootout.

Naeher, a native of Seymour, Conn., led the team in scoring with 33 goals and 6 assists and holds two school records: single-season goals and points total.

Soccer teams advance to the Final Four

November 24th, 2008

For the fifth consecutive year, both Messiah’s men’s and women’s soccer teams clinched spots in the NCAA Division III Final Four.

The men defeated Christopher Newport University 2-1 in a nail-biter that took two overtimes to resolve. The Falcons, five-time national champions, will face Loras College (Iowa) on Dec. 5.

The women advanced after a sound victory against Eastern University (2-0). They will take on William Smith College on Dec. 5 in their sixth visit to the Final Four in the last seven years.

The Final Four and championship games will be played in Greensboro, N.C.
