Sophomore Jeffrey Stiles ’16 earns prestigious Boren Scholarship to study in China
April 21st, 2014
Politics major Jeffrey Stiles ’16 has won a Boren Scholarship to China. Courtesy of the U.S. government, Stiles will spend 2014-15 doing Chinese language study as well as taking courses in politics and economics at the Shanghai International Studies University. The Boren is administered by the Institute of International Education—the same agency that looks after the Fulbright—and is designed for undergraduates who wish to do a year of language training in countries that the U.S. State Department deems of national security interest. Stiles is Messiah’s second Boren scholar; Bianca Basch (2012) won for Thailand in 2010-11.
