Distinguished humanities professor Mark Noll to speak at Messiah College

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Feb. 16, 2010) — Mark Noll, Francis A. McAnaney Professor of History at the University of Notre Dame, is the next distinguished lecturer for The Annual Ernest L. Boyer Center Distinguished Lecture Series. He will speak on “Race and Religion in American Politics as a Theological Problem” on March 9 in Hostetter Chapel at 7 p.m. No tickets required. About Mark Noll
Noll started his long line of education at Wheaton College, where he majored in English. He then attended the University of Iowa to get his master’s degree in comparative literature followed by Trinity Evangelical Divinity School for a master’s degree in church history. He ended his repertoire of fine education by attaining a doctorate degree in American religious history at the prestigious Vanderbilt University. Currently, as a professor, Noll teaches about the interaction of Christianity and culture in 18th- and 19th-century Anglo-American societies. On the side, he publishes articles and reviews on many different topics including Christianity in modern history. In 2005, Noll was named one of the 25 most influential evangelicals in the United States by “Time” magazine. Additionally, he was distinguished with the National Humanities Medal, which honors people who deepen the understanding of the humanities in our nation, in November 2006.
