Over the past two days we have traveled to both Olympia and Crete. Our first stop in Olympia included visiting the ancient Olympic Games location. While we were there, we learned about the gymnasium and how athletes and non athletes from all around would come to enter themselves in the competition. Judges would determine if they were fit enough to compete in the games. There were many different events that the athletes could compete in to honor Zeus, but the highlight of the Olympics were the track and field events. One of the stories that we heard was about a woman who was a daughter and sister of two Olympic champions who snuck into the track event to see her son compete, and was estatic when he became a champion. After leaving Olympia, we drove to the city of Patra, which is one of the biggest cities in Greece. We stopped for dessert and our first view of the Aegean Sea. After a brief stop, we headed towards the port of Piraeus where we boarded an overnight ferry and headed to Crete.

Today in Crete, we visited the Minoan Kingdom that is the location of the mythological labyrinth. We viewed the ruins of the kingdom and walked along the oldest road in Europe. Afterwards, we traveled to Saint Titus’ Basilica where we learned about the Laws of the land which were engraved on the walls of the church. Then we enjoyed lunch in the heart of Crete and relaxed in the afternoon. Dinner was enjoyed at the hotel, followed by swimming and downtime after an exciting day.
