Weekly Update!!!
Service Day was a great success! We are really grateful for everyone who came to help out! Our chickens have a newly renovated coop and they could not be happier. Our garden team is beaming since we prepped the gardens for the summer!
Here’s a recap of what we did on Service Day 2016:
Upper Garden:
- We did bed prep; we weeded, spread compost, and mulched around the beds
- We cleaned up the fences by trimming back the bushes
- We planted 2 different cultivars of potatoes and we planted onions
- We had the chickens out all day and they really enjoyed themselves
Lower Garden (Garden Expansion):
- We made community garden boxes
- We renovated the chicken coop
Last Friday was also an exciting day, BEE-cause the honey bees arrived on campus! Anna McKay, a senior Sustainability Studies major, installed bees for her senior capstone project! The bee hives are located next to the chickens at the Garden Expansion, so don’t worry we will not have a swarm of bees terrorizing our campus!
