Theatre alum Stephanie Fieger `02 to star in Broadway production of Macbeth

Stephanie Fieger `02 will play the role of Harpier in a Lincoln Center Theater revival of “Macbeth.” Opening Nov. 21 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater, Macbeth will be played by Ethan Hawke.

Terry Brensinger `77 selected to lead Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary

Alumnus Terry Brensinger `77 has been appointed dean and vice president of Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary (FPBS). FPBS is both a school within Fresno Pacific University and serves as the national seminary for the U.S. Mennonite Brethren Conference.

Curtis Stutzman `80 named Messiah Lifeways’ next president/CEO

Alumnus Curtis Stutzman `80 will replace outgoing president/CEO Emerson Lesher `74 at Messiah Lifeways, a retirement community in Mechanicsburg, Pa. Stutzman comes to Messiah Lifeways after 17 years serving as chief financial officer at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, Va.

Alumna Laura Meitzner Yoder `93 appointed director of the Human Need and Global Resources program at Wheaton College

For the past 12 years, alumna Laura Meitzner Yoder `93 has worked with communities as well as regional and national governments in Latin and South America on land and forest policy and in agriculture. Yoder will now use her experiences and expertise to lead Wheaton College’s Human Need and Global Resources Program, a partnership with host organizations worldwide to combine classroom study with field-based service-learning internships in which students participate in transformational initiatives that enable people to live whole, secure and productive lives.

Alum Brian Hoyt `79 wins Presidential Teaching Award from Ohio University

Ohio University Lancaster Business Management Professor Brian Hoyt has been selected as a Presidential Teacher Award winner for 2013. Presidential Teacher Award recipient selection is based on excellence in teaching and meritorious academic pursuits both inside and outside the classroom, as acknowledged by peers and students.

Dr. Gregory Thornbury `93 named sixth president of The King’s College, N.Y.

Attorney Brooke Say `02 of Stock and Leader LLP named to Pennsylvania Rising Stars list as one of the top and up-and-coming attorneys

For the second consecutive year, alumnus Brooke Say `02 was named one of Pennsylvania’s top up-and-coming attorneys. Say is one of only 2.5 percent of lawyers in the state to receive this honor. This distinction, published nationwide in Super Lawyers Magazine, highlights individuals under the age of 40 and those with less than 10 years of in practice, who have made a significant impact in their professional careers.

A member of both the School of Law and Employment Practices Groups at Stock and Leader LLP, York, Attorney Say focuses her practice in the representation of school districts and in the areas of special education, discipline, labor and employment and civil rights matters.

Matthew Kustenbauder `98 receives Fulbright-Hays scholarship from the U.S. Dept. of Education for 10 months of research in South Africa

A Fulbright-Hays scholarship will fund 10 months of research for Matthew Kustenbauder `98, a Ph.D. candidate in the Harvard University department of history. Kustenbauder’s research will take place in South Africa and inform his dissertation, “South African Cosmopolitans in a British Imperial World, c. 1850-1950.”

Kelly Warner `13 and Erik Hornberger `12 selected for U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarships

June 14th, 2013

Kelly Warner `13 and Erik Hornberger `12 are among approximately 610 U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who received a scholarship from the U.S. Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship (CLS). CLS participants spend seven to 10 weeks in intensive language institutes in one of 13 countries.

Warner’s host country is Russia. She is an English major with teaching certification. Hornberger’s host country is Japan. He is currently enrolled in the Ph.D. engineering program at the University of Kansas.

The CLS program is part of a U.S. government effort to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering foreign languages.

Writer and illustrator Jonathan Bean `01 wins 2013 Boston Globe-Horn Book Award

Alumnus Jonathan Bean `01 is the recipient of the 2013 Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for children’s picture books for his beautifully written and illustrated “Building Our House.”
