WITF airs the “sounds of Spain” as recorded by two students on a May cross-cultural trip

Students Matt Babcock and Scott Hoeckele were equipped by local public radio station WITF to record the “sounds of Spain” during their recent cross-cultural trip there in May 2010. The two students talk about their experience traveling throughout the country against a soundtrack of noises and sounds they recorded along the way.

U.S. News & World Report ranks Messiah the fourth “Best Regional College in the North” and in the top ten “Great Schools, Great Price”

Each year, “U.S. News & World Report” releases its rankings of college and universities nationwide. The rankings are designed to be a starting point for students and their families in their college search.

This year Messiah ranked well on several lists, including fourth among “Best Regional Colleges in the North” and seventh along “Great Schools, Great Price.”

Messiah is also noted in the rankings for its 77% graduation rate.

Three Messiah students win scholarships from the PA Institute of Certified Public Accountants

Each year the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants awards scholarships to students who demonstrate intellectual capacity, leadership potential, financial need, and the desire to pursue a career in accounting. This year, three Messiah students – Mitchell Martin, Brandon Kiser, and Hien Nguyen – were awarded scholarships. Kathleen Greulich was recognized as an outstanding college senior. Only Penn State University had more representation among the scholarship winners.

PA Department of Education approves Messiah to offer masters of art in art education

March 22nd, 2010

Starting this summer, Messiah College will begin offering courses for its third graduate program – a M.A. in art education. Enrolled students can choose from two, 36-credit tracks – art education and studio art. The program is designed for art educators in grades K-12. Coursework is primarily online with some onsite studio classes.

Messiah offers new minor with emphasis on how gender influence everyday life

Messiah launched a new minor this semester in gender studies, focusing on how gender influences everyday life. Offered in partnership with the Department of Human Development and Family Science and the Department of Sociology, Social Work and Criminal Justice, the minor focuses on both women and men and the personal and social dynamics between the genders. The theories, concepts, and skills developed through this program help students better understand gender relations in domestic, religious, workplace, and political settings. Students pursuing this minor are also encouraged to pursue active learning through internships or the Philadelphia Campus.

Messiah launches first graduate program

June 15th, 2009

Messiah has received approval for its first graduation program, a master of arts in counseling. Students can select from three specialized tracks—mental health counseling; marriage, couple and family counseling; and school counseling. The first session begins July 27.

Messiah adds Chinese to modern language curriculum

April 14th, 2009

Starting in the fall, students can complete the general education language and cultures requirement by taking Chinese 101: Fundamentals of Chinese and then enrolling in subsequent semesters of Mandarin Chinese.
