Second place finish at PA Amateur Championships ranks golfer Matt Burkhart among elite
August 16th, 2011
“In a field loaded with NCAA Division I talent, how does a kid from a small Division III school hang with the big boys,” asked the Harrisburg Patriot-News in a July 27 article about Messiah golfer Matt Burkhart and his impressive second place finish at the PA Amateur Championship.
Burkhart, who was recruited by Division I schools to play golf, chose Messiah College because he wanted “something different.” His arrival on campus and on the links was quickly noticed—his freshman year he led the Falcons to a Commonwealth Conference Championship and their first ever appearance at the Division III national championships.
Burkhart is a junior accounting major from Lancaster County.
