Alum teaching sustainable development in Thailand

Laura Meitzner Yoder ’93 currently teaches at the International Sustainable Development Studies Institute (ISDSI) in Chiang Mai, Thailand.  Yoder has practiced her focus areas of tropical agriculture (plant breeding, seed systems, and ethnobotany), community development in conflict areas, and social research with local universities in Ecuador, Honduras, Indonesia, East Timor, and Thailand. She shared her experiences in a recent article for Intervarsity.

Community garden serves rural population

The CCCU (Council for Christian Colleges and Universities) featured a variety stories from their member campuses during Christian Higher Education Month in October. In a story about how institutions are serving in rural communities, the CCCU highlighted Messiah’s community garden.

Greening campus by reducing food waste

A recent University Business magazine article cites several practices in Messiah College’s dining services operation for reducing on-campus food waste. Specifically Messiah is mentioned in the September article for its composting program, community garden, and donating of leftover food to local missions.
