After losing to Salisbury University in last year’s championship game, the Falcons were highly motivated to defeat the defending champs. Messiah played an aggressive game and netted a 3-0 victory over the Sea Gulls. A September 24 Patriot-News article writes, “While the roster my skew young, that doesn’t mean the Falcons’ underclassmen lack big-game experience.”

Chris Heisey, the Messiah baseball stand-out who was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds a few weeks ago, is settling into both the nerves and perks that come with being a major league player, according to a June 6 article in the Lancaster Sunday News.

Kristen Bates did it again! She out-performed the best hurdlers in Division III and won the national championship! With the victory in the 100-meter hurdles, Bates became Messiah’s most decorated athlete. The Harrisburg Patriot-News featured the track star June 4.

Jess Rhoads got a lot of people’s attention last year when she helped Messiah’s softball team win its first national championship. Rhoads, a graduate of local Northern High School, has a story and family background that compels her to be an outstanding pitcher and player. The Patriot-News did a lengthy story about Rhoads on May 16.

In one of his first games as a major league baseball player, Chris Heisey hit a homerun, helping his Cincinnati Reds team defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-0.

The golf team underwent a “whole philosophical change” says coach Troy Boone about the team’s first-ever qualifiication for the NCAA tournament. The team played well despite several obstacles to clinch the MAC title and earn the NCAA spot, as noted in a May 6 “Patriot-News’ story.

Chris Heisey, Messiah alumnus who is climbing the ranks in minor league baseball, and Chris Heisey, photographer for the local Catholic diocese, had a chance meeting earlier this year thanks to an incorrectly addressed package. Chris Heisey the photographer received a baseball glove intended for Chris Heisey the baseball player in the mail. Eventually the two connected, and the experience made enough of an impression on Chris Heisey the photographer that he wrote about it for the April 23 issue of “The Catholic Witness.”
