Spring Semester!

Spring Semester as begun which means that in addition to looking forward to new classes, warmer weather, and a fresh start, there are also a bunch of new activities and opportunities coming up! The Commuter Connection is your weekly update on what’s happening on campus this spring semester

Add/Drop dates

February 27 is the last day to DROP a course ($15 fee)

April 2 is the last day to WITHDRAW from a Spring course ($15 fee)

Note: The course and “W” appear on your academic transcript


Commuter Lounge and Lockers

The commuter lounge is a great place to relax, study, or even catch a few winks! It is located in the basement of Hoffman Hall and is reserved strictly for commuters. The lounge is open daily from 6 a.m. – Midnight. Free tea, coffee, hot chocolate, microwave, water cooler, and refrigerator are available. There is a permanent PC and printer available for use as well as general office supplies. Wireless internet is also available. If you need extra supplies, please contact Sheryl Ezbiansky at sezbians@messiah.edu to let her know. A limited number of lockers are available for use in the commuter lounge.  Lockers are assigned on a first come, first served basis.  To use one for the duration of the academic year, contact Sheryl at sezbians@messiah.edu, ext 5240, or stop by her office in the Larsen Student Union in the Student Involvement & Leadership Programs suite.


 

New space in Frey Hall!

The Frey Hall addition is a two-story add on to the existing building.  The lower level (basement) will be space utilized by the new Civil Engineering department and will house lab space to be used by that group.  The first floor will be dedicated for use by the Art department and will have both lecture and studio space available to them.


Into the City: Washington, DC

Applications are now being accepted for the spring Into the City trip to Washington, DC! This career immersion program will take place on March 25-27, and promises students a high-impact, hands-on, educational experience through site visits, alumni panels, and a networking reception.

ORGANIZATIONS REPRESENTED INCLUDE:  Microsoft, US Capitol, Rwandan Embassy, International Justice Mission, Smithsonian Institution, Social Radar, World Learning Inc., Rep. Scott Perry, Genesis Engineering, Goddard Space Center, and more!

APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY 5:00 PM ON March 6th. Students from all majors and academic years are encouraged to apply. ITC is collaboratively sponsored by the Career and Professional Development Center, Office of Alumni & Parent Relations, and the Development Office.

Emergencies, Alerts, and Winter Weather!

Emergencies & Escort Services

For an ambulance, dial 9911. For urgent on-campus assistance, dial 6565. For the Department of Safety, dial 6005.  Among other things, the Department of Safety will escort you as needed from dusk to dawn. Emergency phones are available at various spots across campus.

Text Message Alert

Messiah College is committed to providing a safe learning, living, and working environment for students and employees and recognizes the importance of communicating quickly and effectively during an emergency situation.  While the College would utilize multiple communication outlets in an emergency situation, the widespread prevalence of cellular phones offer a means of communicating quickly and broadly to the campus population.

Students are asked to provide their cell phone numbers through a sign up in MC Square.  If you have additional questions concerning the Text Message Alert System, please go here.

Chapel & Spiritual Opportunities

Messiah offers a variety of different chapel experiences.

Common Chapels, for the entire student body, are held in Brubaker Auditorium on Tuesday and a few Thursday mornings beginning at 9:45am.

Elective Chapels, which offer students a choice between liturgical worship, Bible teaching, praise and worship, mission awareness, and more, are held on the remaining Thursday mornings at the regular chapel hour.

Alternate Chapels are services held at other times and planned by various student organizations and special interest groups throughout the year.

February Open House!
