Campus Survey

You are invited to participate and offer your insights in a valuable process to improve our campus and community experience.

This Friday, the 24th of February, you will receive a link to take part in a Campus Climate Survey regarding your experiences at Messiah College.

Specifically, we are asking for your honest reflections of how and where you have witnessed or experienced discrimination and/or violent attitudes and behaviors within the Messiah College community.

This initiative is designed to gather information to influence our evaluation and development of programming and services. What you and your neighbors have experienced matters; please use this opportunity to share your story. Surveying is a best practice across institutions of higher education and as we work to better serve our community needs, consistently identifying experiences of discrimination on our campus is a critical process.

In doing so, we seek to identify the best opportunities to enhance our inter-cultural competence, develop targeted prevention initiatives, and provide educational programming that drives our institution’s commitment to being a wholly hospitable community, embracing diversity and ending inter-personal violence.

Students that complete the survey within the first week will be entered into a confidential drawing with a chance to win one of two $100 VISA cards for Spring Break!

You will have until Friday, March 10th to take advantage of this opportunity. We are grateful for your participation in this endeavor.

Auditions for The Shaughraun!

The Department of Theatre and Dance invites you to be in an Irish comedy!

Set against the secret Fenian Uprising in Ireland in 1866, “The Shaughraun” is the comic masterpiece of Ireland’s undisputed master of melodrama. Desperate forbidden passions! Damsels in distress! Swashbuckling swordplay! Mustached villains! And a charismatic hero! All conspire for a delightful Irish romp!

Actors wishing to audition are asked to prepare two comic monologues, one of which is from Irish theatre. For walk-ins, monologues will be provided.

General auditions will be held on Monday, February 6th, 6:30pm—8:30pm in Poorman Blackbox Theater in Climenhaga Building. Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, February 7th, 6:30pm—8:30pm. Actors can sign-up for a 5 minute audition time slot on the call board located in the theatre hallway in Climenhaga basement. A character list and synopsis will also be posted.

Performances will be March 30th-April 2nd & April 6th-9th in Miller Theater. Casting is open to all members of the academic community.

Occasionally, guest actors will be employed. Any Messiah College student enrolled and in good academic standing as defined by the statement on satisfactory academic process in the student handbook is encouraged to audition. The Department of Theatre follows an Inclusive Casting Policy which means that casting is open to all actors regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, disability, or age. Exceptions to the Inclusive Casting Policy may be taken when specified by the director’s production concept. An exception to the Inclusive Casting Policy must be made when the dramatist’s stage directions regarding race, ethnicity, gender, disability, or age are both explicit and protected by the license to produce the play. Theatre majors who have declared the acting emphasis are required to audition for all department productions.

Any questions about these auditions can be directed to: Ed Cohn, ECohn@messiah.edu
