 Tender Land

Come hear and see why Messiah’s Opera Workshop won first place in the 2014 National Opera Association opera production competition, as it joins forces with the Department of Theatre and Dance and the Messiah College Symphony Orchestra for a fully mounted production of Aaron Copland’s “The Tender Land.”

Performances are April 7, 8, and 9 at 8:00pm and April 10 at 3:00pm in Miller Theater. Tickets are available at the ticket office, online at www.messiah.edu/tickets, by phone at 717-691-6036, or at the door.

Originally conceived as an opera for television in the early 1950s, “The Tender Land” revolves around the Moss family, living in a rural Midwestern town, and the graduation of their oldest daughter, Laurie, who is unsure of her future in the world and what she will do after high school. At a party on the eve of graduation, Laurie falls in love with Martin, a migrant worker. They plan to elope, but then Martin abandons Laurie. In her despair, her family consoles her, but she realizes the time has come to leave and become her own person.

Come support your fellow Messiah students as they present an incredible story told through opera!

CPR Classes

Messiah College Emergency Medical Services (MCEMS) club is hosting CPR Certification training on Saturday April 9th and Sunday April 24th. The class is about 4 hours and will have a fee of only $10 (covering the cost of your certification card).

MCEMS will be offering training for two different CPR Certifications: Healthcare Professional CPR and Heartsaver CPR.

Healthcare Professional CPR is required for anyone wishing to participate in any healthcare clinicals & internships, and for those who are first aid certified.

Heartsaver CPR is for people not necessarily looking to go into the medical field, but who want to be prepared should the occasion arise.

Remember, proficient and timely CPR can save lives regardless of your major! Also keep in mind that Heartsaver CPR may also be required for internships and jobs (even those not related to Healthcare)! Both certifications cover a two-year period.

The classes will take place on Saturday April 9th at 9:00am to 12:00pm, 1:00pm to 5pm, and 5:30pm to 9:30pm in Sollenberger Sports Complex room 166. The second date is Sunday April 24 at 12:00pm to 4:00pm and 5:00pm to 9:00pm in Sollenberger Sports Complex room 166. Max for each class is 20 people. Make sure you RSVP by emailing ems@messiah.edu. Please submit your full name, student ID #, the type of certification you are interested in and we will contact with you shortly. Please give your 1st and 2nd request of times and day; due to anticipated demand we need to do complete class signups on a first come, first served basis. Once the class is full you will get bumped to your second choice. If you sign up and are not able to make it, please email Tommy Bennett (tbennett@messiah.edu) as soon as possible so we can fill the spot with someone else.

Remember, CPR certifications expire after every two years so make sure you take this opportunity to recertify or get certified. You are responsible for your cards once you get them; please put them in a safe place where you will you remember and access them when needed.

Hope to see you all there. Please feel free to contact campus EMT’s Louis Gallo (Co-Chief), Arnie Kotte (Co-Chief), Carly Dove (Lt. Training), or Tommy Bennett (Supervisor) with any questions or concerns. If you are unable to sign up for either of these days, there may be another training scheduled in the future.

Thank You! MCEMS
