Operation Beautiful Week!

Some of you may have participated in recent Minds Matter Chapels involving Body Image! It is time to take the information you learned and put it into practice! This week, the Imaginem Dei house is sponsoring Operation Beautiful! You may have heard about it at your floor meeting yesterday!

Our goal is that you take the time that you may spend thinking about your outward appearance to reflect on the creation the Lord has made you to be. For example, maybe some time spent at the gym can be turned into devotional time. Ladies, maybe the time you spend on hair and makeup can be cut short to serve others! The possibilities are endless!

Keep your eyes peeled for little messages of joy and encouragement throughout the week! Let’s take this week to be thankful for the individual, beloved, creations the Lord has made us to be!

Just to get you thinking about the importance of this week-check out this video!

White-Water Rafting!

When is rafting?: Sunday, April 26th.  Plan on this being an all day trip (times will be solidified soon).

How Much: The cost of the trip is $40 which covers transportation, raft rental, shuttle token, river fees, and lunch.  This is a great deal!! Actual cost of the trip is about $120 per person but the Outdoors Club is subsidizing each person’s expenses.  You are responsible for your own meal on the way to the river and the way home (typically we stop at a fast food restaurant).

Where: We will be rafting on the lower Youghiogheny River in Ohiopyle, PA (about 3 hours away in southwestern PA).  This will be class III and IV white water.

Class III:  Intermediate.  Rapids with moderate, irregular waves which may be difficult to avoid and which can swamp an open canoe.  Complex maneuvers in fast current and good boat control in tight passages or around ledges are often required; large waves or strainers may be present but are easily avoided.  Strong eddies and powerful current effects can be found, particularly on large-volume rivers.  Scouting is advisable for inexperienced parties.  Injuries while swimming are rare; self-rescue is usually easy, but group assistance may be required to avoid long swims.

Class IV:  Advance.  Intense, powerful but predictable rapids requiring precise boat handling in turbulent water.  Depending on the character of the river, it may feature large, unavoidable waves and holes or constricted passages demanding fast maneuvers under pressure.  A fast, reliable eddy turn may be needed to initiate maneuvers, scout or rest.  Rapids may require “must” moves above dangerous hazards.  Scouting is necessary the first time down.  Risk of injury to swimmers is moderate to high, and water conditions may make self-rescue difficult.  Group assistance for rescue is often essential but requires practiced skills.

Rapid descriptions are from the American Whitewater Association (AWA).

The trip in the fall is a self-guided trip. However, this trip will have a raft guide in each raft. This trip is VERY beginner friendly.

How to pay: You can now pay the $40 at the Student Programs Office upstairs in the Union. Please put the $$ in an envelope labeled White Water Rafting with your name and ID number on it as well. Hand it to whoever is at the front desk, and they will give you some information forms and liability forms that you need to fill out and bring with you on rafting day.

You are not signed up until you pay.
