This installment continues the trek across the Atlantic Ocean. \u00a0What does Ernie consider &#8220;one of the most beautiful sights [he] has ever seen&#8221;? \u00a0Want to know how he helps a stowaway that joins the trip? \u00a0Find out below.<\/p>\n<p>Here are Ernie&#8217;s next five entries:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday, June 15, 1946 \u2013 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Rained again today.\u00a0 We passed two other ships.\u00a0 Got into the routine of feeding watering and bedding the cows.\u00a0 We turned our clocks up one hour.\u00a0 It cleared up this evening and there was a full moon on the ocean.\u00a0 It was one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday, June 16, 1946 \u2013 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>It was a beautiful day on the ocean.\u00a0 We had to move some cattle up [a] deck because Hold 2 was too hot.\u00a0 After supper we had a short religious service.\u00a0 Mr. Wolgemuth was in charge.\u00a0 We passed another ship today.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, June 20, 1946 \u2013 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Arose this morning to see another day of fog.\u00a0 Had a wonderful meal this noon.\u00a0 It was claimed it was due to the Louis victory since our entire Galley crew is colored. \u00a0Fog lifted a while in the afternoon but settled down again this evening.\u00a0 We saw sea gulls today so land can\u2019t be too far.\u00a0 Turned our watched up another hour.\u00a0 Passed another ship.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday, June 21, 1946 \u2013 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Today was a perfect sailing day.\u00a0 There were no white caps and the ocean was peaceful.\u00a0 When we got up we could see the Queen Elizabeth several miles away.\u00a0 There were more sea gulls.\u00a0 We are anxiously awaiting the time we will see England.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday, June 22, 1946 \u2013 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>It was rather cloudy again today.\u00a0 Had a rather interesting experience today.\u00a0 About two-thirty I felt our engines stop so went topside to see what the trouble was.\u00a0 I discovered we had been hailed by the Boulder Victory and were given stowaway from that ship to take back to Poland.\u00a0 He was a young fellow who was going to try to get to his uncle in New York City.\u00a0 His parents were dead.\u00a0 I gave him a shirt and he seemed thankful.\u00a0 Worked pretty hard today pulling straw.\u00a0 We turned our watches up another hour.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Images and journal entries taken from a scrapbook of Boyer&#8217;s experience (catalog #\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/messiah.pastperfect-online.com\/38745cgi\/mweb.exe?request=record;id=CD2FA70B-DF55-4FAF-A399-582179252878;type=101\">1000 0001 4085<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.messiah.edu\/boyerarchives\/2013\/09\/09\/ernie-at-sea-pierside\/\">Part 1.<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.messiah.edu\/boyerarchives\/2013\/09\/11\/ernie-at-sea-setting-sail\/\">Part 2.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the last installment of Ernest Boyer&#8217;s adventure on the Wesley Barrett, the crew finally set sail for Poland to deliver cattle to the war-torn country.
