Spiritual formation is “The process of being conformed to the image of Christ for the sake of others.”
Robert Mulholland Invitation to a Journey

Foundational Statement

Messiah College has categorized the formation of mature Christian lives into three foci that serve as a model for intentionality in the formation process while allowing the flexibility that is required for such an important process. We focus particularly on knowing, being and doing. We view these as intertwined entities essential for the holistic development of individuals living as members of the Messiah community.

College Ministries should be a primary resource for this process we call Christian Spiritual Formation. We understand that it must be a collaborative effort with many partnerships, conversations, experiences and resources needed to develop such a varied and flexible model. At the same time, all of this needs to be accomplished within the values and mission articulated by the college.

We understand that the design is dynamic and will constantly be in a process of revision; but needs clarity to determine priorities and enable proper evaluation of opportunities and programming. We believe that the College Ministries staff should provide servant leadership in this process committing to collaborate across the institution.

Purpose Statement
For
College Ministries

The office of College Ministries seeks to engage the students, faculty and staff of Messiah College in spiritual formation, the process of being conformed to the image of Christ for the sake of others. This formation is expressed in maturity of being, characterized by a personal and communal relationship with God in Jesus Christ; maturity of knowing, characterized by intentional and transformational learning and reflection about God, self, and the world; and maturity of doing, characterized by intentional actions compelled by what we believe and who we are in Christ.
