Go Falcons!

Filed under: General — athomas @ 2:12 pm

Before I go into talking about the Falcons, I want to give a public shout-out to two recent blog posts I’ve read: Beth’s recent post on ‘God knitting a message’ really blessed me. The second is Justin’s predictions for our basketball teams.

I am excited for both our teams and I must say that I agree with Justin in that they have the potential of going DEEP in the tournament. Well, we’ll just have to wait until Friday for the action to begin but in the meantime, take a look at some sweet highlights from the women’s MAC championship game vs. Moravian (thanks to RCH productions).

God is the solution!

Filed under: General — athomas @ 12:47 am

I have been PATIENTLY waiting (it’s been hard, trust me) for the new Hillsong United album to come out. If you do not know anything about Hillsong, please visit www.hillsong.com. Right now, I need to talk about the new CD. It’s called “All of the Above” and they’ve finally released one of the new tracks on their myspace. The song is called “Solution” … what can I say? It’s such a powerful anthem of the call that God has on each of our lives. I encourage you to take a listen. Let the words minister to you.

I’m posting a portion of the lyrics below - this is part of the bridge. Enjoy!

only you can mend the broken heart
and cause the blind to see
erase complete the sinners past
and set the captives free
only you can take the widows cry
and cause her heart to sing
be a father to the fatherless
our savior and our king
we will be your hands, we will be your feet
we will run this race
for the least of these
in the darkest place, we will be your light
we will be your light

I pray that in whatever situation you find yourself in, let God be the solution and allow Him to use you to be His hands and feet.

Phonathon’s back for the spring…

Filed under: General — athomas @ 12:37 am

It’s almost been a month since I blogged. I’m guessing if anyone kept up with my blog they probably stopped because of my silence. So, if you’re reading this, thanks for the visit. Things have been busy - preparing for Phonathon, training callers, snow/ice storms etc. After all of that, we’ve finally started Phonathon for the spring. Callers begin this past Monday. It has been challenging for a few - getting used to the headsets, the program and all they have to do but I must say that they are learning quickly! We’re calling up alumni “futures” - they’ve never given to the college before so we put a positive spin on it and categorize them as a future supporter. I must say that it can be a hard thing to get them to support Messiah but I believe that ANY gift from them is a great investment into the lives of men and women who will impact society for Christ! Trust me, my callers are working hard to gain their financial support.

In other news, the women’s basketball team won the MAC semi-finals and will play for the championship here at Messiah on Saturday. The Men’s team lost tonight - tough loss. I had the honor to stand next to President Phipps cheer and cheer them along. Both of us echoed the great work the players and coaches have done this year. I’m hoping they get a NCAA bid.

One last thing - stay tuned. Why? Because in the NEAR future, you’re going to find phonathon caller bios and two of them are going to begin blogging about their experience here. You will not want to miss this.
