Messiah College hosts Doris Kearns Goodwin lecture Oct. 30

(Oct. 9, 2014) — Doris Kearns Goodwin will discuss “The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft and the Golden Age of Journalism” Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Parmer Hall located in the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts. About Doris Kearns Goodwin
As one of the most recognized historians of the day, Doris Kearns Goodwin’s new book, “The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism,” is a dynamic history of the first decade of the Progressive Era—that tumultuous time when the nation was coming unseamed and reform was in the air.
Author of several best-selling books, Goodwin won the Pulitzer Prize for “No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II.” A contributor both on and off the air to the PBS documentaries “LBJ,” “The Kennedys” and “FDR and Baseball,” Goodwin is the person most turn to for a keen historical perspective on political and current events.
“Lincoln,” the film version of her acclaimed book, “Team of Rivals,” was produced by Steven Spielberg and premiered in November 2012 to rave reviews and multiple Golden Globe and Oscar nominations. Dreamworks Studios and Steven Spielberg have also acquired the film rights to “The Bully Pulpit.”
