Messiah College presents “Abyssinian” featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and Chorale Le Chateau

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Sept. 30, 2013) — The Messiah College Cultural Series, Office of Development and Office of the President present “Abyssinian: a gospel celebration featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and Chorale Le Chateau” Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m.  The concert will feature a blend of both gospel and jazz music and will take place in Parmer Hall located in the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts at Messiah College.  Tickets for all seats are $60 and may be purchased by contacting the Messiah College Ticket Office at 717-691-6036 or by visiting messiah.edu/tickets. Messiah College theatre department presents poetic drama “J.B.”

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Sept. 25, 2013) — The Messiah College Department of Theatre and Dance presents Archibald MacLeish’s modern retelling of the biblical account of Job Oct. 16 through Oct. 20.  Show times for “J.B.” are 8 p.m. on Oct. 16, 17, 18 and 19 and 3 p.m. on Oct. 20.  After the last show Oct. 20, local religious leaders and health care providers will reflect on their personal experiences in grief counseling in a post-performance conversation.  General admission tickets cost $10; student and senior citizen tickets cost $7.  To purchase a ticket, contact the Messiah College Ticket Office at 717-691-6036 or visit messiah.edu/theatretickets.  This play is best suited for ages 13 and older.

The drama, directed by Professor of Theatre Valerie Rae Smith, will be held in the Poorman Blackbox Theater located in the Climenhaga Building.  WITF’s Cary Burkett will play God/Zuss while guest designer Tom Ryan of Boom!Creative, LLC will design the production.

Timothy Shah delivers American Democracy Lecture at Messiah College Oct. 8

(Sept. 17, 2013) — Timothy Shah, associate director of the Religious Freedom Project at the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs and visiting assistant professor in the government department, Georgetown University, will discuss “Why Religious Freedom Is a Universal, Necessary and Dangerous Idea” Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in Hostetter Chapel at Messiah College. Admission is free; no ticket required.
