Messiah College News Releases

Messiah College senior theatre major to direct “Empathy” from John Patrick’s collection of one-act plays titled “Suicide-Anyone?”

November 15th, 2012

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Nov. 15, 2012) — Messiah College theatre major Brooke Hutchins will present her senior project from Dec. 6-8 by directing “Empathy,” a one-act play from John Patrick’s collection “Suicide- Anyone?” All performances will take place at 8 p.m. in Miller Auditorium, located in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the college’s Grantham campus. Tickets are $5 and can be reserved by visiting messiah.edu/tickets or by calling the Messiah College box office at 717-691-6036.

The play narrates a series of unsuccessful suicide attempts by a frustrated would-be actress. The young woman is interrupted first by a housepainter, who appears strikingly optimistic despite some monumental problems of his own, and next by a TV repairman/pre-med student. As the play unfolds these encounters, the audience is bound to wonder if the intrusion of these two strangers will change the mind of the young actress.
