Messiah College to present Christmas Concert and various other musical performances throughout December

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Nov. 12, 2012) — The Messiah College department of music will present multiple concerts throughout December featuring a variety of musical ensembles and styles. For more information, contact the music department at 717-766-2511, ext. 3310.

Concert highlights

Dec. 2, 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. (please note corrected date)
The Messiah College Christmas Concert, featuring various college ensembles, will be presented twice. The first concert will be held at 4 p.m. in St. Lawrence Chapel located at 110 State Street, Harrisburg. The second performance will take place at 8 p.m. in Hostetter Chapel. Tickets are $10 and can be ordered by calling the ticket office at 717-691-6036.

Dec. 5, 7 p.m.
An Evening of Broadway will present a concert in Miller Auditorium, located in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

Dec. 8, 3:30 p.m.
The Messiah College Guitar Ensemble will present a concert with the Mechanicsburg Middle School Guitar Ensemble in Hostetter Chapel. In order to support Mechanicsburg Middle School’s approach to learning in which guitars are included in the general music program, Messiah College’s guitar majors work with middle school students to help them develop their playing technique and improvisational skills. The upcoming concert will feature performances from both ensembles, concluding with a piece in which both ensembles perform together. The concert is free and open to the public.

Dec. 9, 3 p.m. 2 p.m.
The Messiah College United Voices of Praise, the college’s gospel choir, will present a concert in Hostetter Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.

About Messiah College’s music department
The Messiah College Department of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.  Undergraduate degrees offered include the Bachelor of Science in music education, the Bachelor of Music in performance, the Bachelor of Arts in Christian music studies, composition or commercial music and the Bachelor of Arts in music business. Students in all majors gain valuable experience through private study, junior and senior recitals and a wide variety of ensemble performances, tours and recordings.

The music department also offers a Master of Music in conducting. This graduate program is designed for continued education in a focused field of conducting, and students deepen their expertise by following a specialized track in wind, orchestral or choral conducting.
