Guitarist and violist from Messiah College to perform for Haitian medical missions

November 19th, 2012

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Nov. 19, 2012) —Messiah College professors of music Kerry Harker-Roth and Randall Zwally will perform a department-sponsored recital on Dec. 9 to support medical missions in Haiti.  The recital will take place at 6:30 p.m. at Slate Hill Mennonite Church located at 1352 Slate Hill Road, Camp Hill. Admission is free, but an offering will be accepted to fund Christian health care missions in Haiti via Thriving Villages International. The concert will include Christmas music performed by Harker-Roth on viola and Zwally on guitar as well as Appalachian bluegrass music featuring Zwally on the five-string banjo. Messiah College Department of Human Development and Family Science presents its first Outstanding Alumni Award to Susan Binkley Van Zant `74

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Nov. 15, 2012) — The Messiah College Department of Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) recently presented its 2012 Outstanding Alumni Award to Susan Binkley Van Zant, 1974 graduate in home economics. The award, designed to recognize HDFS alumni for distinguished contributions to the service of individuals and families, was presented to Van Zant at the Pennsylvania Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (PAFCS) Regional Meeting on Oct. 25 in Hershey, Pa. Messiah College senior theatre major to direct “Empathy” from John Patrick’s collection of one-act plays titled “Suicide-Anyone?”

 GRANTHAM, Pa. (Nov. 15, 2012) — Messiah College theatre major Brooke Hutchins will present her senior project from Dec. 6-8 by directing “Empathy,” a one-act play from John Patrick’s collection “Suicide- Anyone?” All performances will take place at 8 p.m. in Miller Auditorium, located in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the college’s Grantham campus. Auditions open for Choral Arts Society at Messiah College

November 13th, 2012

 GRANTHAM, Pa. (Nov. 13, 2012) — Public auditions for the upcoming season of the Messiah College Choral Arts Society, a college-community choral ensemble, will be held on Dec. 4 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Jan. 8 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. All auditions will take place in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center, room C-47, on the college’s Grantham campus.  High school students, college students and adults with previous choral experience are encouraged to audition. Entering its 67th season, the Choral Arts Society rehearses on Tuesday nights from Jan. 15 until the concert on April 28 in the new Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and the Performing Arts Center.  Repertoire for the season includes Handel’s “Messiah.” Continue reading…

Art exhibit at Messiah College to feature aesthetic paper constructions of Christine and Donald Forsythe

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Nov. 13, 2012) — The delicately intertwined work of artists Christine and Donald Forsythe will be on display at the Aughinbaugh Art Gallery at Messiah College from Dec. 3 until Jan. 17. The artists, who are both professors at the college, created a portion of the work on view during visits to the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ireland as a response to the rural County Mayo coastline. Additional pieces in handmade paper, mixed-process printmaking, collage and artist’s books were created specifically for this two-person exhibition. The artists will talk about their work during a reception on Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. in the gallery. The exhibition is free and open to the public during normal gallery hours. Continue reading…

Oakes Museum at Messiah College to host holiday open house

November 9th, 2012

 GRANTHAM, Pa. (Nov. 9, 2012) — The Oakes Museum of Natural History at Messiah College will host its fourth annual open house on Dec. 1 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Throughout the day, volunteers will be available in the museum to interpret the exhibits and answer questions.  The museum staff will offer discounts in the museum store, serve refreshments and provide crafts and hands-on science activities for children.
