Aughinbaugh Art Gallery exhibit at Messiah College to feature the work of Daniel Finch and David Kasparek

November 11th, 2011

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Nov. 11, 2011) —The Aughinbaugh Art Gallery at Messiah College will display the artwork of Daniel Finch and David Kasparek in the exhibit “Transition/Transmission” from Dec. 2 to Jan. 15. All are invited to attend an informal reception where the artists will discuss their work on Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. in the Aughinbaugh Art Gallery, located in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center. The museum is free and open to the public during normal gallery hours; the gallery will be closed Dec. 16 to Jan. 3 for Winter Recess.

The “Transition/Transmission” exhibit presents the spirited artwork of two established Messiah College department of visual arts professors, Finch and Kasparek. The exhibit will feature a combination of large-scale oil paintings, mixed-media constructions, printmaking and a massive sculptural form. Much of the imagery represents the artists’ influential boyhood experiences and interests with artistic themes such as memory, pop culture, generational identity, American punk, BMX/skate culture, the formation of masculine identity, film and more.

About the artists
Daniel Finch is an associate professor of visual art at Messiah College. Finch received a bachelor of fine arts degree with a concentration in two-dimensional studies from Augusta State University. He later attended University of Georgia (UGA) where he received a master of fine arts in the field of painting and drawing. After graduation Finch taught at UGA as an adjunct professor before coming to Messiah. Finch’s artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally including collections in Italy and France. His work has been featured on the cover of the national publication New American Paintings.

David Kasparek received his master of graphic design degree from North Carolina State University after earning a bachelor’s degree from Seton Hall University. His work has appeared in national and international publications such as Print Magazine, Typography 3: Global Vision, an annual publication featuring international excellence in type design.  Kasparek has exhibited his artwork across the nation in displays from Pennsylvania to California. He is now an associate professor of graphic design at Messiah College teaching classes on typography, the union of type and image, visual literacy and multimedia design.
