GRANTHAM, Pa. (Sept. 27, 2011) — Messiah College’s department of human development and family science is partnering with the Mid-Atlantic Council on Family Relations to sponsor a half-day workshop on Latino families. Andrew Behnke, the keynote speaker, is an assistant professor and the human development specialist at North Carolina State University. The workshop, titled “How to improve the lives of Latino families through effective service delivery and research,” will be held on Oct. 18 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Parmer Cinema, located in Boyer Hall. The conference is open to the public, and participants need to complete the pre-registration form at http://www.ncfr.org/your-local-ncfr/affiliate-councils-websites/macfr. GRANTHAM, Pa. (Sept. 23, 2011) — The department of music at Messiah College will present three concerts in October: the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras on Oct.14 at 8 p.m., the Jazz Ensemble and Big Band on Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. and finally, the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds on Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. All concerts will take place in Miller Auditorium, located in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center, on the college’s Grantham campus. GRANTHAM, Pa. (Sept. 20, 2011) —The Student Activities Board at Messiah College welcomes Jack’s Mannequin with guests Ace Enders and Alicia Lemke to perform a concert on Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. The concert will take place in Brubaker Auditorium, located on the college’s Grantham campus, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $15 for students and $25 for guests, and tickets can be purchased by visiting messiah.edu/tickets or by calling 717-691-6036.

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Sept. 15, 2011) — Messiah College’s theatre department will perform “Little Women” as the fall production. The drama, adapted by Marisha Chamberlain from the novel by Louisa May Alcott, will be directed by guest director Elizabeth Reed. The show will run on Oct. 6, 7 and 8 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. in Miller Auditorium, located in Climenhaga Fine Arts Center. GRANTHAM, Pa. (Sept. 13, 2011) — David Walker joined Messiah College on Sept. 1 as the vice president for finance and strategic planning. Walker has more than 20 years of experience working with institutions of higher education, healthcare and other non-profit agencies and has spent the last 12 years as the associate vice president and associate treasurer at Dickinson College.
Walker will provide oversight to Messiah College’s business office, endowment team, purchasing and institutional research. Walker will also lead Messiah’s strategic planning process. Continue reading…

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Sept. 13, 2011) —The Messiah College department of English welcomes Kent Gramm, author, professor, play writer, director and Pulitzer Prize nominee, to campus for a reading of his works on Oct. 4. The presentation will take place at 7 p.m. in the Alexander Auditorium, Frey 110, in Frey Hall academic building, located on the college’s Grantham campus. Gramm will discuss his processes of writing in his presentation, “True Lies: Writing Fiction and Creative Non-fiction,” followed by engaging the audience in readings from his various works of poetry, fiction and nonfiction. (Sept. 9, 2011) —Messiah College’s Student Activities Board hosts a free weekly concert series titled “B-sides,” bringing diverse, under-the-radar bands to campus every Wednesday night at 10 p.m. Each concert is open to the public; no tickets are required. GRANTHAM, Pa. (Sept. 8, 2011) — Melissa Deibler, a teacher in the Mechanicsburg Area School District, will return to Messiah College as the keynote speaker for the Fall Research Forum hosted by the department of education on Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. The department annually invites faculty members or alumni to highlight their research about education. This year, Deibler will present her action research through photographs and data: how to implement an expository writing unit in her second grade classroom. The forum, titled “The Jacket Museum,” will display her second graders’ process to create and manage “The Dust Jacket Museum.” Deibler will present in Boyer 131 and Howe Atrium in Boyer Hall. GRANTHAM, Pa. (Sept. 7, 2011) — With the start of the 2011-2012 academic year, Messiah College announces the addition of several new academic programs to its undergraduate and graduate course offerings. Undergraduate students enrolled at Messiah College can select from five new majors: Chinese business; Chinese studies; dance; digital media; and ethnic and area studies.
Messiah’s graduate program offerings have expanded to six, including three new master’s programs in education, higher education, and youth and young adult ministry. All of Messiah’s graduate programs are designed for working professionals and are conducted primarily online. Continue reading…
