Messiah College music department to present November concerts

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Oct. 14, 2009) — The Messiah College Music Department will present several concerts during the month of November.
On Nov. 1 at 7 p.m., Musica Nova will feature new compositions by Messiah College composers. The concert will take place in Poorman Recital Hall, Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the Messiah College Campus. A variety of styles will be represented, from classical to pop to avant-garde.
The Messiah College Faculty Wind Quintet will perform Sunday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. in Poorman Recital Hall in Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the Grantham Campus of Messiah College. Multi-movement selections will include 19th century flute virtuoso Claude-Paul Taffanel’s “Quintette in g minor,” as well as two of the 20th century’s most challenging additions to the repertoire, Gyorgi Ligeti’s “Six Bagatelles” and “Aires Tropicales” by Paquito d’Rivera. Admission is free.
Other upcoming concerts include Studio Ensembles on Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. in Hostetter Chapel located on the College’s Grantham campus, Chamber Ensembles on Nov. 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. in Poorman Recital Hall in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the College’s Grantham campus, Studio Ensembles on Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. in Hostetter Chapel located on the College’s Grantham campus, and an Instrumental Showcase on Nov. 18 featuring the wind ensemble, orchestra, and JazzONE at 7:30 p.m. at The Forum in Harrisburg.
