Classical styles and hard rock combine in Georgia Guitar Quartet concert at Messiah College

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Feb. 20, 2009) — With mixed genres from Bach and Brahms to Radiohead and Led Zeppelin, the Georgia Guitar Quartet (GGQ) will impress all music enthusiasts with a dynamic performance on March 13 at 8 p.m. in Miller Auditorium, located in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the college’s Grantham campus. Formed in 1996 in Athens, Georgia, GGQ leads audiences on a musical journey through an expansive array of genres and time periods. The group performs throughout the nation in venues ranging from concert halls to popular music clubs, and has collaborated with modern dance groups and visual artists to produce multimedia performances. Celebrated artists, GGQ has been featured on American Public Media’s “Performance Today” and has released four critically-acclaimed recordings, the most recent consisting exclusively of music composed by its members. The quartet’s musicians include Kyle Dawkins, Brian Smith, Phil Snyder and Jason Solomon.
The Cultural Series is a public, five-part annual performance series sponsored by Messiah College. The Georgia Guitar Quartet is the final performance of the 2008-09 season, Celebration of Strings.
Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls 2,800 undergraduate students in more than 55 majors. Established in 1909, the primary campus is located in Grantham, Pa., near the state capital of Harrisburg. A satellite campus affiliated with Temple University is located in Philadelphia.
