Messiah College American Democracy lectures celebrate the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln

GRANTHAM, Pa. (March 31, 2009) – Messiah College will celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Abraham Lincoln on April 21 with a panel discussion and lecture hosted by the department of history. Both presentations are in Brubaker Auditorium in the Eisenhower Campus Center on the college’s Grantham campus. The panel discussion, “Abraham Lincoln and the Transformation of American Democracy” begins at 4 p.m. Then, at 8 p.m. Darrel Bigham, member of the National Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, will present the keynote address, “My Life with Lincoln: Memory, History and Irony.” Free tickets are required for the evening lecture and can be reserved by calling the ticket office at (717) 691-6036 or www.messiah.edu/tickets. Messiah College Choral Arts Society to present audience favorite Handel’s “Messiah”

GRANTHAM, Pa. (March 30, 2009) — Celebrating its 63rd year, the Messiah College Choral Arts Society will perform Georg Frideric Handel’s “Messiah” on April 19 at 4 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 2000 Chestnut St. in Camp Hill. The 70-member choir, internationally-distinguished soloists and orchestra will be conducted by Linda Tedford, director of choral activities at Messiah College and founder and conductor of the Susquehanna Chorale. Tickets are $14 for general admission, $12 for senior citizens and $5 for students, and can be purchased by calling the college ticket office at (717) 691-6036 or at www.messiah.edu/tickets. Messiah College hosts workshop for guitarists and worship leaders

GRANTHAM, Pa. (March 27, 2009) – Three accomplished guitarists will lead a one-day seminar for guitarists and worship leaders on April 18 at Messiah College. The Workshop for the Christian Guitarist will feature instruction by Chris Davis, guitarist for the contemporary Christian group GLAD; Dwight Thomas, director of Christian music studies at Messiah; and Randall Zwally, director of guitar studies at Messiah. (March 16, 2009) – The Sider Institute for Anabaptist, Pietist and Wesleyan Studies at Messiah College will feature a lecture on April 6 as part of its 11th Annual Schrag Lecture Series. Speaking will be June Alliman Yoder, a former professor at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary. Fiorina will speak about “The Road to (and from) the 2008 Elections.” As a political analyst, Fiorina specializes in elections, public opinion and the U.S. Congress. (March 12, 2009) — On April 1 professionals from the field of family science will meet with current Messiah College students along with other local groups to discuss the family science profession, specifically working with the adult population. GRANTHAM, Pa. (March 12, 2009) —Creating a national advertising campaign is no easy task—especially creating one that is named one of the top five in the 20th century. However, that is not the case for advertising pioneer Keith Reinhard who developed ad campaigns such as McDonald’s “You Deserve A Break Today,” or State Farm’s “Like A Good Neighbor, State Farm is There.” On March 30, Messiah College will host Keith Reinhard, chairman emeritus of DDB Worldwide Inc., for a presentation entitled “The Case for Global Citizenship.” The lecture, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in Hostetter Chapel (updated 3/30), on the college’s Grantham campus, is free and open to the public.
