Free weekly concert series at Messiah College features diverse emerging artists

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Feb. 25, 2009) — Sponsored by Messiah College’s Student Activities Board, “B-Sides,” a semester-long concert series, brings bands with diverse musical styles to campus every Wednesday night at 10 p.m. for free concerts. (Feb. 20, 2009) — With mixed genres from Bach and Brahms to Radiohead and Led Zeppelin, the Georgia Guitar Quartet (GGQ) will impress all music enthusiasts with a dynamic performance on March 13 at 8 p.m. in Miller Auditorium, located in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the college’s Grantham campus. March concerts at Messiah College usher in spring

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Feb. 13, 2009) — The Messiah College School of the Arts will present two concerts in March: the symphony orchestra will perform March 6 at 8 p.m., and the wind ensemble and symphonic winds will perform on March 7 at 8 p.m. Both concerts take place in Miller Auditorium, located in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the college’s Grantham campus, and are free and open to the public. GRANTHAM, Pa. (Feb. 10, 2009) — There is an ongoing discussion about the combination of science and religion, evoking responses that cover all ends of the spectrum. On March 3 the Messiah College Honors Program along with the Central Pennsylvania Forum for Religion and Science look to continue that discussion when they sponsor the lecture, “Scientists Assaulting God: Can Evolution Be a Religion?” Karl Giberson, one of today’s leading science and religion scholars, will discuss how science and religion are intertwined. The lecture begins at 7 p.m. in Hostetter Chapel on the college’s Grantham campus. Continue reading…

Messiah College earns recognition on President’s Honor Roll for Community Service

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Feb. 10, 2009) — The Corporation for National and Community Service named Messiah College to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in recognition of the college’s exemplary service efforts to America’s communities.

Almost 92% of Messiah College’s student body participates in some form of local community service while they are enrolled at Messiah, according to the College’s Agape Center for Service and Learning. Yearly, students log more than 124,000 volunteer hours. Continue reading…

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Feb. 6, 2009) — As the conclusion of the 2009 Spring Humanities Symposium, Messiah College’s School of the Arts and Center for Public Humanities, along with the Central Pennsylvania Forum for Religion and Science, will host the play, “Blue Lias,” a story of fossil hunter Mary Anning in Victorian England. The performance is on Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. in Miller Auditorium in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on Messiah’s Grantham campus. There is no charge, but tickets are required for the performance. Messiah College hosts free workshop to help parents of high school seniors complete FAFSA forms

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Feb. 3, 2009) — Parents of graduating seniors who are daunted by the task of completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form can find relief at a free workshop on February 17 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Messiah College in Frey Hall academic building, room 166. Financial aid officials from Messiah will assist parents while they complete the FAFSA form on either the web or on paper. GRANTHAM, Pa. (Feb. 2, 2009) — Presidential candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton spoke at Messiah College during The Compassion Forum about how their personal faith would inform political decisions. Now, Messiah College will explore how the many aspects of faith in the public square serve as a driving force of human life in its annual Spring Humanities Symposium – “Faith in the Public Square” – taking place Feb. 23-27. Symposium keynote speaker Alan Wolfe, director of the Boisi Center for Religion and American Public Life and professor of political science at Boston College, will provide the keynote address, “Who’s Afraid of American Religion,” on Feb. 26 at 8 p.m. in Brubaker Auditorium in the Eisenhower Campus Center on the college’s Grantham campus. Other featured lecturers include Imam Yaya Hendi, first Muslim chaplain at Georgetown University; Richard Hughes, senior fellow in the Boyer Center and distinguished professor of religion at Messiah College; and Edward Davis, distinguished professor of the history of science at Messiah College.
