About the production
Anton Chekov’s “The Three Sisters” follows Olga, Masha and Irina Prozorov, three sisters who are stuck in a provincial Russian town dreaming of moving back to Moscow, the city where they grew up. Like other Chekhov plays, “The Three Sisters” examines the decaying privileged class in Russia and the search for meaning in the modern world. With one sister in a dead-end job and one in a dead-end relationship, the future looks grim. Amidst endless boredom with short spurts of violent chaos, the three women are forced to determine their own future. This work, written specifically for the Moscow Art Theatre, was first performed in 1901 and has been challenging audiences and artists alike ever since. Messiah’s production of the Three Sisters is directed by Kristopher Yoder, a professional actor and teaching instructor at Messiah College.
