Stephen Barr to give lecture on religion and science at Messiah College

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Sept. 23, 2008) — Stephen Barr, author of “Modern Physics and Ancient Faith,” will lecture on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. in Hostetter Chapel, located on Messiah College’s Grantham campus. Barr will offer insight into a passionately debated topic: the supposed conflict between religion and science. The lecture, sponsored by the Central Pennsylvania Forum for Religion and Science, is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Ted Davis at (717) 766-2511, ext. 6840.

About Stephen M. Barr
Barr is a senior professor of physics at the Bartol Research Institute at the University of Delaware. Earning degrees from Columbia and Princeton Universities, he is a highly respected theoretical particle physicist and leading Roman Catholic writer. Barr also serves on the editorial board of “First Things,” a journal of religion, culture, and public life, for which he often writes.

About The Central Pennsylvania Forum for Religion and Science
The Central Pennsylvania Forum for Religion and Science, under the direction of Edward B. Davis, professor of the history of science, sponsors events to promote better understanding of religion and science, including medicine and social science, in the region. By hosting speakers who represent a variety of religious and disciplinary perspectives, the Forum continues the college’s tradition of learning through dialogue. In the past, the group has sponsored lectures and events discussing “American Adolescent Religion: National Patterns of Practice and Belief,” archeology and the Bible and Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee’s play “Inherit the Wind.” The Forum is part of an international group of local societies, sponsored by various institutions with support from The Metanexus Institute.
