GRANTHAM, Pa. (Sept. 12, 2008) — Singer-songwriter Sara Groves joins forces with Derek Webb, Charlie Peacock, Sandra McCracken, and Brandon Heath to bring the Art*Music*Justice tour to Messiah College on Oct. 4. The concert, benefiting the International Justice Mission and Food for the Hungry, begins at 7 p.m. in Brubaker Auditorium located in the Eisenhower Campus Center on Messiah’s Grantham campus. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at www.messiah.edu/tickets or by calling (717) 691-6036.
The Art*Music*Justice tour seeks to bring awareness to the issues of human rights and disaster relief. The tour is described as a chance to “Add to the Beauty, Seek Justice, and Give God Praise.” Each show features real-life stories and pictures of justice in action.
Singer-songwriter Groves, who just released her new album “Tell Me What You Know,” headlines the tour. Groves, a three-time Dove Award nominee, is an advocate for social justice and human rights. After seeing the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the genocide in Rwanda she looked for a way to bring awareness to an often overlooked issue. “I wanted to write songs that drew attention to the people who know God deeply because of their suffering,” she said.
Former member of the group Caedmon’s Call, Derek Webb has been nominated for 10 Dove Awards, a Billboard Music Video Award, and has had six #1 radio hits. Charlie Peacock is considered one of the 500 most important record producers in music history by Billboard’s Encyclopedia of Record Producers. He is a six-time Grammy nominee and a three-time recipient of the Dove Award’s Producer of the Year. Sandra McCracken is a recording artist from Nashville, Tenn. who has been a fixture in the independent music scene. Brandon Heath was named New Artist of the Year for 2008 at the Dove Awards and just recently released his second album, “What If We.”
Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls 2,800 undergraduate students in more than 60 majors. Established in 1909, the primary campus is located in Grantham, Pa., near the state capital of Harrisburg. A satellite campus affiliated with Temple University is located in Philadelphia.
