Third annual youth workers conference features concert with popular recording artists Keith and Kristyn Getty at Messiah College

GRANTHAM, Pa. (March 6, 2008) — Youth workers and student youth leaders are invited to join ministry veterans from a variety of churches and organizations on March 29 at Messiah College for a day of worship, educational seminars and roundtable discussions, concluding with a concert by popular recording artists Keith and Kristyn Getty. This third annual conference, themed “Raising the Bar: A Clarion Call to Commitment and Service” is from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Brubaker and Hitchcock Auditoriums and Fry and Boyer Halls, on the college’s Grantham campus. Youth workers and student leaders will hear addresses given by keynote speakers Kenda Creasy Dean, director of the Tennent School of Christian Education at Princeton Theological Seminary and Steven Gallaher, founder of Salt ‘n Light Youth Ministry. The concert is open to the public and will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Brubaker Auditorium in the Eisenhower Campus Center, on the college’s Grantham campus. Conference registrants may attend the concert for no additional cost. For others, tickets, $10 for adults and $5 for students, may be purchased by contacting the ticket office at (717) 691-6036.

About the keynote speakers
Dean, associate professor of youth, church and culture, will lead the youth workers with two keynote sessions. An award-winning speaker and prolific writer, Dean is the author of numerous books, including “The Godbearing Life: The Art of Soul-tending in Youth Ministry” and “Numb & Numb-er: Youth and the Church of Benign Whatever-ism.”

Gallaher, assistant professor of Christian/youth ministry at Messiah College will lead as keynote speaker for the student leaders. Built on the vision of “youth reaching youth with the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” Gallaher also serves as the founder and executive director of Salt ‘n Light Youth Ministry, Inc.

Both will be joined by other ministry professionals, including Messiah College alumni, faculty and administrators, in addressing topics such as including learning to understand why teens do what they do, discussing how to strengthen commitment from volunteers and discovering ways to show grace and truth.

Famous for their hit songs including “In Christ Alone,” “The Power of the Cross” and many others, songwriters and recording artists Keith and Kristyn Getty will lead opening worship, provide a workshop and perform the evening concert. Originally from Ireland, the Gettys are now traveling throughout U.S. with the passion of developing modern hymns that can reach multi-generations with the Bible’s truths.
