About Donna M. McCullough
McCullough’s unique creations have their roots in paradox. Her sculptures take the form of dresses, and she employs steel, wire mesh, cut-outs and other embellishments that help the finished piece “appear feminine and soft while actually maintaining its strength and rigidity.” She quotes as inspiration the felt difference between perceptions of femininity as delicate and actual women of resilient character, using “a juxtaposition of extremes… to convey feminine sensibilities.”
Aughinbaugh Art Gallery Director Sherron Biddle comments, “While acknowledging fashion as a reflection of cultural trends and historical events, Ms. McCullough takes this one step further and creates dresses that embody the detritus of life as commentary.” McCullough’s work has appeared in exhibits up and down the east coast, in California, New Mexico, Texas and Mexico. She was the 2002 recipient of the Member’s Choice Award in the Baltimore Sculptors Group Annual Show and the 1999 winner of the Museum Director’s Award.
