GRANTHAM, Pa. (Aug. 28, 2008) — Messiah College, together with its Sider Institute for Anabaptist, Pietist and Wesleyan Studies, announces the fourth annual Wittlinger Chapel Series, a three-part lecture series designed to discuss Biblical themes central to the Brethren in Christ denomination’s heritage at Messiah College. Each of the three chapels will be held at the Grantham Brethren in Christ Church, located at the main entrance of the Messiah College campus in Grantham, on Sept. 18, Oct. 2 and Oct. 23, all from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Continue reading…

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Aug. 26, 2008) — Peter Enns’ academic interest in Old Testament theology, the New Testament’s use of the Old Testament and the intersection of biblical studies with evangelical thinking about Scripture will infuse his “Genesis and Evangelicals” lecture at Messiah College on Sept. 16. The Central Pennsylvania Forum for Religion and Science is sponsoring the talk which is free and open to the public. (Aug. 25, 2008) — Musician Ingrid Michaelson’s Sept. 13 show at Messiah College comes just days after she opens Madison Square Garden for the Dave Matthews Band and just days before she kicks off a European tour with Jason Mraz. The 8 p.m. concert will take place in Brubaker Auditorium in the Eisenhower Campus Center on the college’s Grantham campus. (Aug. 22, 2008) — The hip cello quartet Cellofourte will open Messiah College’s 2008-09 Cultural Series season by masterfully melding diverse music styles in a way that is sure to please both heavy metal groupies and classic music buffs. Cellofourte will perform their multi-faceted set on Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. in Miller Auditorium in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the college’s Grantham campus. (Aug. 21, 2008) — Leaders representing the civic, faith and education communities of Harrisburg; state officials; and distinguished national scholars Molefi Kete Asante and Beverly Tatum will convene a four-day symposium in the Harrisburg region on the topics of race, education, faith and closing the achievement gap in schools. Sponsored by the Ernest L. Boyer Center at Messiah College and a team of community partners including the Harrisburg School District; Harrisburg Initiative to Lift Every Voice; Human Relations Commission, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; Office of the Mayor, Harrisburg; and the Office of the Secretary of Education, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, each symposium event is free and open to the public. GRANTHAM, Pa. (Aug. 21, 2008) – The Aughinbaugh Gallery at Messiah College will display the vivid and fantastical bead sculptures of artist Gail Gorlitzz from Sept. 12 until Oct. 19. The exhibit, “Depth Perception,” will feature a variety of Gorlitzz’s work, much of which is inspired by sea life and her garden, and may be viewed during normal gallery hours. The gallery will sponsor an artist’s talk and reception on Sept. 12 from 6-8 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Continue reading…

(Aug. 20, 2008) – This year’s Common Reading Convocation at Messiah College features a talk by Sharon Baker, assistant professor of theology and religion at Messiah College, about the cultural setting of “A Thousand Splendid Suns,” the novel chosen as the college’s common reading text for first-year students. The lecture is on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in Brubaker Auditorium, located in the Eisenhower Campus Center on the college’s Grantham campus. (Aug. 18, 2008) — The Messiah College Lost Films Society, the on-campus film group sponsored jointly by the college’s department of communication and the Student Activities Board, has announced a portion of its contemporary film series for the fall semester. All films will be shown in Parmer Cinema, Messiah College’s state-of-the-art screening facility, located on the ground floor of Boyer Hall on the college’s Grantham campus. In addition to evening showings, a Saturday matinee is available for each film. (Aug. 15, 2008) – Sponsored by Messiah College’s Student Activities Board, “B-Sides,” a semester-long concert series, brings bands with diverse musical styles to campus every Wednesday night at 10 p.m. for free concerts. Each concert is free and open to the public; no tickets are required. All bands will perform in Larsen Student Union, located on the college’s Grantham campus. (Please note that there will be no B-Sides concerts on Sept. 10 due to a previously scheduled event in the Larsen Student Union or on Oct. 8 due to fall recess.) Continue reading…
