Messiah College screening of “Iron Jawed Angels” serves as platform for conversation about voter registration

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Feb. 18, 2008) — On March 2, Messiah College and the Cumberland County Commission on Women will commemorate Women’s History Month by showing the film “Iron Jawed Angels;” facilitating conversations with state and local officials; and providing voter registration resources. The film will show at 1 and 4 p.m. in Parmer Cinema in Boyer Hall, an academic building on the college’s Grantham campus, and officials will address attendees between screenings. B-Sides concert series at Messiah College showcases eclectic, up-and-coming bands

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Feb. 15, 2008) — Sponsored by Messiah College’s Student Activities Board, “B-Sides,” a semester-long concert series, will bring in bands from Philadelphia to New England, New York to Washington, D.C. The concerts take place every Wednesday night at 10 p.m. until May 14, and they are free and open to the public. No tickets are required. All bands will perform in Larsen Student Union, located on the college’s Grantham campus. Please note that no concert will take place on March 19, due to the college’s closing for spring break. GRANTHAM, Pa. (Feb. 15, 2008) — Pianist Leon Bates and Borealis Wind Quintet are collaborating to present a unique performance of piano and winds at Messiah College on March 7 at 8 p.m. in Miller Auditorium, located in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the college’s Grantham campus, in the fourth concert of the college’s five-performance Cultural Series. The concert will showcase this duo’s finesse and style as they perform the finest of the classics, commissioned works and opera arias, among various piano and winds pieces. Messiah College announces its spring 2008 “Lost Films” schedule

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Feb. 14, 2008) — The Messiah College Lost Films Society, the on-campus film group sponsored jointly by the college’s department of communication and the Student Activities Board, has announced its contemporary film series for spring 2008. All films will be shown in Parmer Cinema, Messiah College’s state-of-the-art screening facility, located on the ground floor of Boyer Hall on the college’s Grantham campus. In addition to evening showings, a Saturday matinee is available for each film. (Feb. 7, 2008) — The Messiah College School of the Arts will present two concerts in March: the symphony orchestra will perform March 1 at 8 p.m., and the wind ensemble and symphonic winds will perform on March 2 at 3 p.m. Both concerts take place in Miller Auditorium, located in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the college’s Grantham campus. World religions scholar Stephen Prothero lectures at Messiah College on religious literacy

(Feb. 5, 2008) — Stephen Prothero, prolific speaker, author and scholar, will present the spring Educational Issues Forum at Messiah College on Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. in Hostetter Chapel, located on the college’s Grantham campus. His most recent book, “Religious Literacy: What Every American Needs to Know—and Doesn’t,” deals with religious illiteracy as one of America’s most concerning civil problems. GRANTHAM, Pa. (Feb. 4, 2008) — Modern technological advances and their impacts on human communications, relationships and environments can cause both celebration and anxiety. “Eyes Wide Open: Engaging Technology with our Humanity” is the central theme of the annual Spring Humanities Symposium at Messiah College from Feb. 25-29. Symposium keynote speaker, Edward Tenner, noted independent scholar, public intellectual and authority on issues related to the interface between technology and modern culture, will provide the symposium’s keynote address, “A User’s Guide to Unintended Consequences: Technology, Failure and Resourcefulness,” on Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. in Brubaker Auditorium in the Eisenhower Campus Center on the college’s Grantham campus. A book-signing will follow. Tickets for Tenner’s lecture are required and can be reserved by calling the college ticket office at (717) 691-6036. The entire symposium is free and open to the public.
