President Kim Phipps Receives Centennial Award from Kent State University

President Kim Phipps has been named the 2014 recipient of The Centennial Award, the highest honor of Kent State University’s School of Communication Studies. This award honors alumni “who are nationally and internationally recognized for their preeminent contributions to their profession’s or life’s work as they relate to the field of communication, education, scholarship and community.” President Phipps earned her Ph.D. in communication studies from Kent State University. Dean of the School of Humanities Pete Powers selected for national leadership development program

Pete Powers, dean of the School of the Humanities, is one of 32 administrators in higher education nationwide selected by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) to participate in a yearlong Senior Leadership Academy.

Individuals chosen for the program are administrators in higher education who have been identified by their institutions as having the potential for senior leadership positions in independent colleges or universities. Powers will participate in two seminars, will undertake a mentoring program, work with experts, participate in webinars and engage in a series of readings and case studies during the 2014-2015 academic year.

Messiah College marketing and communications office recognized with 2013 American Inhouse Design Award

The College’s graphic design team—comprised of Nancy Soulliard, Ben Bond `09 and Carrie Barlup—was recognized with a 2013 American Inhouse Design award from Graphic Design USA for their design of the College’s see anew admissions magazine. The magazine was recognized among the top 15 percent of the more than 4,000 entrants in this national design competition, which serves as the premier showcase for outstanding work by inhouse designers.

Dean Ray Norman delivers keynote address at recent World Vision conference

May 15th, 2013

Ray Norman, dean of the School of Science, Engineering and Health, recently spoke at a World Vision conference in Chicago about the attempted assassination attempt on him and his daughter while living in Africa and serving with World Vision. Norman’s story also reveals the depth of his Christian faith and his commitment to the Gospel of Jesus and helping the poor.

Amy VanDerWerf, director of residence life at Messiah College, was recently recognized by her peers with the Ruth Bamford Award from the Association for Christians in Student Development (ACSD) for her visionary leadership, effective residential programming philosophy, faith commitment, and ongoing scholarly contributions to the field of student affairs.
