Messiah College Programming Team Wins First Place in Mid-Atlantic Region Contest

November 24th, 2014

Congratulations to Falcons I, the Messiah College Programming Team of Nathan Chaney (’15, Computer and Information Science and Engineering), Zach Felix (’14, Mathematics), and Marcus Upton (’15, Engineering), for winning first place in the Mid-Atlantic Region Programming Contest of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), held Nov. 1 2014 at Radford University. The team is coached by Dr. Scott Weaver and Jason Long (’03, Computer Science).

The contest is 5 hours of intense programming in Java or C++, as the team tries to solve as many of the problem scenarios as possible. Falcons I solved more problems correctly than any other of the more than 150 teams, including teams from University of Maryland, Virginia Tech, University of Virginia, and University of North Carolina. The team’s victory qualifies them to progress to the World Competition in Marrakesh, Morocco, in mid-May 2015.
