Messiah College earns placement on Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll

May 23rd, 2011

GRANTHAM, Pa. (May 23, 2011) — Messiah College has been named to the 2010 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, a distinction recognizing institutions of higher education for their support of volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.

The Corporation for National and Community Service, which administers the annual Honor Roll, recognized more than 600 colleges and universities for their impact on issues from literacy and neighborhood revitalization to supporting at-risk youth.

Honorees for the Community Service Honor Roll are chosen based on a series of selection factors including scope and innovativeness of service projects, percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for service and the extent to which the school offers academic service-learning courses.

In 2010, an estimated 98% of Messiah College’s graduating class participated in some form of local community service while enrolled at Messiah, according to the College’s Agape Center for Service and Learning.

The Honor Roll is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service in collaboration with the Department of Education, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Campus Compact and the American Council on Education.
