Young pianist who won College’s 2010 Rising Stars Concerto Competition to play with Harrisburg Symphony

January 13th, 2011

Yen Yu “Jenny” Chen, a 15-year-old pianist from the Philadelphia area, will perform Maurice Ravel’s “Piano Concerto in G” with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra Jan. 15 and 16 as a result of her excellent performance during Messiah’s Rodney and Lorna Sawatsky Rising Stars Concerto Competition in 2010. Chen won the Rising Stars competition and, therefore, the privilege of playing the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra.

Stuart Malina, music director for Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra said of Chen and her young age in a January 9 Patriot-News article, “Is there some risk? Yes,” he said. “But after listening to her play, it’s clear she has a big career ahead of her.”

Both performances are at the Forum in Harrisburg. The Jan. 15 performance is at 8 p.m. and the Jan. 16 performance is at 3 p.m.
