Local police secure campus entrances for brief time on May 11

May 11th, 2009

On Monday evening, May 11, shortly after 9:00 p.m., Upper Allen Police secured all entrances to the Messiah College Grantham Campus. Police were in pursuit of suspects in a retail theft that occurred in Lower Allen Township. The Lower Allen Police had originally stopped the suspects, and during the stop, the suspects fled in their vehicle. During the pursuit, police had reason to believe that the suspects had driven onto Messiah’s campus. In response, college administrators sent students an emergency text message alert asking them to remain indoors. After a complete search of the campus by police and the campus safety department, the suspects and vehicle were not found. At approximately 10 p.m., the College then notified students that Upper Allen Police had reopened access to campus.

Any media inquiries regarding this incident should be directed to Upper Allen Police Department at (717) 795-2445.
